In This Unit of Study…

Students will be expected to understand the concepts of and be able to describe and draw points, lines, line segments, rays, intersecting lines, and perpendicular and parallel lines. When given a two-dimensional figure, students will be able to identify each of these attributes that are unique to the shape. Students will also draw line(s) of symmetry in two-dimensional figures while also identifying line-symmetric two-dimensional figures.

B.E.S.T. Benchmarks:

  • MA.3.GR.1.1  Describe and draw points, lines, line segments, rays, intersecting lines, perpendicular lines, and parallel lines. Identify these in two-dimensional figures.
  • MA.3.GR.1.3  Draw line(s) of symmetry in a two-dimensional figure and identify line-symmetric two-dimensional figures.

Key Concepts:

  • I can describe and draw specific geometric component parts (points, line segments, rays, intersecting lines, and parallel and perpendicular lines) of two-dimensional figures.
  • I can identify specific geometric component parts (points, line segments, rays, intersecting lines, and parallel and perpendicular lines) in two-dimensional figures.
  • I can draw and identify lines of symmetry in a two-dimensional figure.
