  • Include a variety of situations to solidify comparison vocabulary of greater than (more than), less than (fewer than), and same as.

  • Which number is greater? How do you know?
  • Which is less? How do you know?
  • What words or phrases do we use when we compare numbers?
  • How does knowing how to count help you compare numbers?
    • Sample answer that indicates understanding: Every time you say another number, it is one more.

[divider] [/divider] Resources/Tasks to Support Your Child at Home:

  • Khan Academy- Comparing numbers to 10
  • Create number cards 0-10. Share the cards between the two players. Each player turns over one card at a time.  The player with the greatest number wins the card.  Play continues until all of the cards are used. The game can be modified so the person with the lesser number is the winner.

  • Create a set of objects (up to 9). Have your child create a set that is greater than or less than the set you created.  Have your child explain their sets reading from left to right, “7 is greater than 5.”
